Bonjour, San Diegan Foodies!
Olala Crepes is our new go-to spot at Liberty Station to satisfy both our sweet and savory cravings. Started by Sam Icyk who hails from the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region in the south of France, this new location serves up freshly made crepes perfect for making your Instagram followers jealous.
Je Suis (I Am) Savory
We had the pleasure of meeting the owner Sam who suggested we try Je Suis President, which has such tasty ingredients as fresh brie cheese, mozzarella, bacon bits, organic spinach and cherry tomatoes. What’s great about ordering a crepe is that it comes with a show. Watching the crepes being freshly made is almost too much. Seeing the buckwheat flour drip onto the hotplate was enough to make our mouths water. It only took one bite for us to confirm that Olala Crepes is on the list of top spots to try this delicious French classic.
No meal is complete without dessert, so we tried the A La Folie from the “Sweet” menu. We found out you can’t go wrong with the traditional white flour crepe filled with strawberries, bananas and of course, Nutella. It was topped off with whipped cream, powdered sugar, and chunks of chocolate chips. The warmth of the crepe melted the chocolate perfectly, making the each bite irresistible! We’re already planning our next trip so we can try one of the other sweet options, any of which can include fresh fruit and/or ice cream!
Are you the type of person who enjoys getting a little rebellious with your crepe creations? Olala allows you to create your own! Choose from fresh ingredients, watch it get made, post to Instagram, and enjoy!
Olala Crepes also offers seasonal and specialty items. During our visit they were promoting a Pumpkin Spice Crepe – why wait for Fall? They were also offering a Kinder Chocolate Crepe and Crème Marron Crepes. Marron is a delicious chestnut paste made popular from France. They also provide gluten-free options.
Next time you’re at the Liberty Public Market, make sure you check out Olala Crepes!
