From the moment you step inside, it’s clear that Cloak & Petal is a unique space. The decor is meant to evoke an abandoned Japanese subway, complete with an “outdoor” seating area inspired by a waiting platform. Their bar features a pair of cherry trees in blossom, while the walls display creative, graffiti-inspired art.
The atmosphere is magical and the menu is full of creative cocktails and dishes you simply won’t find anywhere else. In addition to a full bar, they many beers and hard ciders on tap, ranging from California craft brews to the Japanese favorite, Sapporo. While the menu is pricey, you will certainly have a dining experience to remember here, making the incredible dishes well worth their cost.
Salads, Miso and Sushi in an Enchanting Space
Whether you come in for lunch or dinner, you are sure to enjoy a wonderful meal here. Their menu includes edamame, shishito pepper poppers stuffed with crab and scallops, a Wagyu roll and a daikon salad with sesame and ponzu. Of course, there are also plenty of sushi rolls on the menu, as well as sashimi and nigiri, including tuna and more.
While lunch is limited to salads, sushi and soup, their dinner menu is more expansive. Dishes such as glazed duck breast and Yoshoku steaks will tempt even the pickiest eater. You can enjoy a Japanese Wagyu A5 rib-eye steak, or Wagyu beef raised in the United States. They also serve up tempura, Jidori chicken and even oysters on the half shell.
Whatever you do, try to save a little room for dessert. The dessert menu has options you simply won’t find elsewhere, including a roasted green tea crème brulee, a yuzu curd tart with white chocolate and ice cream, a trio of ice cream flavors (tangerine, caramel-canela and red bean), a chestnut cream cake with a green tea macaron, and their house ice cream and sorbet, which features rotating flavors.
