Do you love checking out creative works from local talent? Are you in need of a focal point work of art for your home or office? Do you simply need something fun to do on the last weekend in April? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you should plan to visit the Mission Federal ArtWalk. This year marks the 34th annual ArtWalk, which is a celebration of art, a street fair and a massive art store all in one.
ArtWalk is an event that helps to bring community awareness to the amazing art being created in San Diego. There will be all kinds of visual art represented at the ArtWalk, as well as performing art. You can enjoy spoken word performances by some of the best local writers or just browse booths and displays that take up 17 blocks of Little Italy for the weekend. People will come from all over the world to browse and buy the incredible creative works on display.
Something Beautiful, Unique and Not to Be Missed
Due to the unique make up of performances, presenters and vendors at each ArtWalk, each year is a fresh experience. This year, there are already an estimated 350 artists registered to participate. Talent will include local, emerging, national and international artists, some of whom will be present to interact with the crowds.
One of the featured artists this year is the talented AkZhana, who will likely have brilliantly colored original oil on canvas paintings for sale, as well as limited edition prints of select works. Other notable artists will include Carolyn Johnson and John Straub.
Beauty, Food and Fun for Everyone
While you can easily spend thousands of dollars on original art at this event, you can also stroll and enjoy it all for free.
Of course, being San Diego, it really wouldn’t be a festival if it didn’t include food. There will be great street food available for purchase. You may also want to patronize one of the many great restaurants and bars dotted around Little Italy.
This is absolutely an all-ages and family-friendly event. They even have a smaller, hands-on event for children, called KidsWalk. Located on Date Street between State and Union, KidsWalk offers hands-on fun including face-painting and creative crafts.
There will be presentations and creative events throughout the weekend, but one of the most exciting and unique to this year’s ArtWalk is an interactive art project that will involve ArtWalk attendees creating an abstract painting. It will definitely be an event to remember!
