March is a fun month in San Diego, with multiple massive Saint Patrick’s Day events mid-month and other spring celebrations. There’s always something fun to do, but few of the free events around town are as popular and as exciting as the East Village Opening Day Block Party.

For those who don’t follow professional sports, the San Diego Padres kick off their home season on March 29, when they host the Milwaukee Brewers at Petco Park. That game is only the first of three back-to-back games between the teams. The East Village Association marks this day each year with a massive block party. This year will actually be the 8th Annual East Village Opening Day Block Party. People from all over will descend on the East Village to celebrate spring and the local baseball team.

Free, Family-Friendly Fun for Everyone

There is definitely something for everyone at the opening weekend block party. There will be live music from local bands, including Caliber, as well as talented DJs, and plenty of refreshments available for purchase. Food trucks from around San Diego will line the street, and many nearby restaurants will set up booths along the road.

If you’re looking for more adult refreshments, never fear! What baseball celebration would be complete without beer? There will be a micro-brew beer garden serving up locally made craft beers. You can also find baseball-themed cocktails that were developed specially for this event.

Tailgate for the Game or Test Your Own Baseball Skills

If you’re attending either the Friday or Saturday San Diego Padres game at Petco Park, there simply won’t be a better place to tailgate with other fans. You won’t even need to bring your grill, since there will be so much food and a plethora of drinks available for purchase.

If you prefer to play baseball rather than watch it, you will definitely enjoy the interactive game zone, where you can test your baseball skills. There will also be free boxing classes from The Boxing Club. For those with a four-legged member of the family, this event is a great chance to get out with your furry friend! There will be a pet fashion show at 3 p.m., and everyone who participates gets a Doggie Goodie Bag. You also get $1 off each drink.
