San Diego has some amazing food staples; you won’t find fish tacos, acai bowls or poke bowls like these on the East coast. But after moving halfway across the country, sometimes I crave food from the Northeast that I can’t get out here. Maple syrup can be sent in the mail, but pizza and bagels aren’t as easy.

As a recent East-Coast transplant, I’m pretty picky, but these are the 4 places claiming to have New York-style bagels that actually aren’t half bad.

BCB Cafe

Address – 1010 University Avenue or find their coffee cart at SDSU
Price – $
Hours – 6AM – 4PM Daily

NYC Bagel – The Everything Bagel is super tasty. It may not have been made with that New York City water everyone talks about, but the product sure tastes like home. They really nail it with their bagel description; “crispy, shiny outside and a soft, doughy inside”

Menu Spotlight – The Crepes also fit the New York style theme, with names like ‘Times Square’ and ‘Broadway’. There are sweet and savory options, our favorite is the Brooklyn with pesto, tomato, avocado, bell pepper, onion, mushroom, spinach, sundried tomato, swiss and cheddar cheese.

Young Hickory

Address4096 30th Street

NYC Bagel – We had to give this Lox Bagel a shout-out; Salmon, Cream Cheese, Capers, Red Onion and Dill.
Menu Spotlight – Serving Bird Rock Coffee, Young Hickory is known for it’s coffee, brews and open-air layout. It’s always busy and is a great spot to take a seat and get some work done out of the office. They have some yummy paninis for sale at lunch. Sandwiches are served on sourdough bread with kettle chips. We love The Chimp, which is a sweet panini with Peanut Butter, Banana, Honey & Chocolate Powder inside.
